Life[ edit ] A marble relief of a poet, perhaps Sophocles Sophocles, the son of Sophilus, was a wealthy member of the rural deme small community of Hippeios Colonus in Attica , which was to become a setting for one of his plays, and he was probably born there. Sophocles’ first artistic triumph was in BC, when he took first prize in the Dionysia theatre competition over the reigning master of Athenian drama, Aeschylus. Instead of following the usual custom of choosing judges by lot, the archon asked Cimon and the other strategoi present to decide the victor of the contest.
But there are some additional, albeit less important questions.

12 Ways to Identify Past Life Friends, Lovers, & Enemies
In those dark days of disconnect, in the early years of the final decade of the last century in Delhi, we plugged into each other’s nervous systems by passing a book from one hand to another, by writing in each other’s notebooks. A great deal of conversation. We became each other’s databases and servers, leaning on each other’s memories, multiplying, amplifying and anchoring the things we could imagine by sharing our dreams, our speculations and our curiosities.
At the simplest level, the Internet expanded our already capacious, triangulated nervous system to touch the nerves and synapses of a changing and chaotic world. It transformed our collective capacity to forage for the nourishment of our imaginations and our curiosities. The libraries and archives that we had only dreamt of were now literally at our fingertips.
Gun rights groups, including the National Rifle Association, opposed the legislation, citing that the rights of regular gun owners may be put in jeopardy due to a misunderstanding.

Read Next The Completely Selfish Reason You Should Help People Journalism is an industry that is still trying to work out how to stop the internet from taking all its money away, like senior citizens desperately refreshing their emails because the Nigerian prince hasn’t got back to them yet. However, this didn’t stop more than 14, people in America from getting journalism degrees in , which roughly translates into 13, applications to Starbucks.
And for those people, like me, who actually managed to get into the field, it’s often revealed to be a much stranger career path than you ever could’ve imagined. This means you will probably end up dating one or two of them, maybe even at the same time if you exist in an Aaron Sorkin screenplay. But while every other failed relationship I’ve had ended with one party scattering the other’s belongings all over the sidewalk and burning them in an unholy effigy to the Great Old Ones, a relationship between two journalists has the potential to get uniquely weird when it ends.

Read more on lesbian love! Hearing first time lesbian stories from women started out as almost a ritual between close friends. As cultural acceptance of lesbians has grown, literature, television, and film has also explored this theme ranging from the first kiss to a lifetime relationship. Complications of Being a Lesbian One of the things that makes first time lesbian stories so captivating are the obstacles and challenges that they often present.
This makes it incredibly difficult for women, young or old, to identify, process, and integrate the feelings of being a lesbian into their life. Unless a woman has some kind of role model or support structure tolerant of lesbianism, they are probably going to feel that their emotions and sexual urges are somehow bad, and feel guilty for them.

By Caitlin Dewey By Caitlin Dewey May 27, Follow caitlindewey Police were examining this video posted on YouTube in which a man who identifies himself as Elliot Rodger says he is planning an attack in Isla Vista because he had been snubbed by women. This video contains language that some may find disturbing. Rodger has personally been linked to an account on the pick-up site PUAhate. In his last YouTube video, in which he chillingly announces the start of his killing spree, Rodger even cops some classic pick-up lingo: The true alpha male.
Making those kinds of sweeping conclusions would be, as critics have pointed out, really irresponsible and dumb. Not all branches of the manosphere are overtly appalling; not all of them are even run by men. That said, their core philosophy basically boils down to this: This philosophy plays out differently in different places. Is that a wig? But taken to extremes, that belief in retro gender roles has fueled a whole system of sites that denigrate women and advocate for a socio-cultural regression that puts ladies back in the kitchen and bedroom.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which identifies hate groups, even went so far as to publish a report on it in

But, though I may have a morbid fascination with the real-life monsters in our midst, it doesn’t mean I have any plans to decorate my den with John Wayne Gacy paintings , my kids’ rooms with Charles Ng origami sculptures , or to keep a Satanic Bible signed by “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez on the dresser of our guest bedroom I usually prefer deploying a sackful of feeder crickets to scare off visiting relatives.
Apparently, there are people out there who enjoy collecting heinous stuff like that, though, and luckily for them a man named William Harder has a website designed specifically to serve their creepy-ass needs. Why does it always have to be fucking clowns? There’s technically nothing wrong with keeping items like this in your home, I suppose, if you’re a fan of the “social pariah” lifestyle or enjoy the occasional poltergeist infestation.
Framing for this type of artwork is not recommended, as glass shards only give the vengeful spirits more to work with.
Paul — the medieval city half destroyed by earthquake and gloriously rebuilt.
With the wealth of its heritage, the warmth of its climate and the hospitality of its inhabitants, Malta is an excellent geographical location at the heart of the Mediterranean… where years ago travellers from the larger island of Sicily arrived, settling in the archipelago, living in caves and building stone temples. The Phoenicians followed opening a trading post for the Mediterranean Northern Areas. The Romans colonised the island and transformed it to a Province of the Roman Empire with the city of Mdina becoming their administrative hub.
Paul was shipwrecked and brought Christianity to a people who worshipped the old gods. Malta and its capital, Mdina, was a stronghold for controlling the Mediterranean Sea so the archipelago was dominated by different dynasties; Normans, Angevins, Castilians, but the most famous were The Knights of the Order of St. John, who transformed the islands, with magnificent architecture and artistic splendour.
After several failed attempts by the Maltese to retake Valletta, the British were asked to assist. Rear Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson decided on a total blockade in and the French garrison surrendered in As Malta became a British colony, the following years saw the building and operation of the Malta Railway and the modernisation of the fortifications. During the Second World War, Malta suffered great attacks, being so closely situated to Sicily and the Axis shipping lanes, it was bombarded by the Italian and German air forces day and night.
The island was used by the British to launch attacks on the Italian navy from a submarine base.

This is a do-it-yourself procedure. When fajitas are cooked cut into small slices. Perfect compliments for this divine composition are frijoles and Spanish rice. But they don’t call them skirt steaks in San Antonio–they call the fajitas. From what I was able to learn, it seems fajitas are something of a Southern Texas–or Tex-Mex-phenomenon.

And I think Australians are right. Here is a relevant Slashdot post: Litt explained that our expectation of privacy isn’t legally recognized by the Supreme Court once we’ve offered it to a third party. Thus, sifting through third party data doesn’t qualify ‘on a constitutional level’ as invasive to our personal privacy. This he brought to an interesting point about volunteered personal data, and social media habits.
Our willingness to give our information to companies and social networking websites is baffling to the ODNI. While Snowden’s leaks have provoked Jimmy Carter into labeling this government a sham, and void of a functioning democracy, Litt presented how these wide data collection programs are in fact valued by our government, have legal justification, and all the necessary parameters. Litt, echoing the president and his boss James Clapper, explained thusly: We do not indiscriminately sweep up and store the contents of the communications of Americans, or of the citizenry of any country.
We do not use our intelligence collection for the purpose of repressing the citizens of any country because of their political, religious or other beliefs. We collect metadata—information about communications—more broadly than we collect the actual content of communications, because it is less intrusive than collecting content and in fact can provide us information that helps us more narrowly focus our collection of content on appropriate targets.
But it simply is not true that the United States Government is listening to everything said by every citizen of any country. This is the point Litt misses, and it’s not a fine one.

Parmenides, Theaetetus, Phaedrus c. Transmission of Plato’s Works Except for the Timaeus, all of Plato’s works were lost to the Western world until medieval times, preserved only by Moslem scholars in the Middle East. In Henri Estienne whose Latinized name was Stephanus published an edition of the dialogues in which each page of the text is separated into five sections labeled a, b, c, d, and e. The standard style of citation for Platonic texts includes the name of the text, followed by Stephanus page and section numbers e.
Scholars sometimes also add numbers after the Stephanus section letters, which refer to line numbers within the Stephanus sections in the standard Greek edition of the dialogues, the Oxford Classical texts. Other Works Attributed to Plato a. Spuria Several other works, including thirteen letters and eighteen epigrams, have been attributed to Plato. These other works are generally called the spuria and the dubia.
The spuria were collected among the works of Plato but suspected as frauds even in antiquity.
